LD Seats

The original black seat covers have seen better days.I think a nice Tan colour will pop with the Beige paintwork. Any thing has to be better than original grimy black ones.

Strip off the old covers and clean up the steel work send out for Powder coat.

It has to be Black Gloss for the frames. As I was unable to buy a spring set for the LD seats I had to trawl the tinter web and found a very helpful site The Lambretta Club of Great Britain. On the forum a clever man described making a set of springs from a stainless steel drain unblocker. (Left)

Well lets give it a go. when cutting the the lengths l would measure the gap and take away 10mm - 12mm this would give a bit of tension after the seat cover was in place.

After cutting the drain unblocker in to suitable lengths and with the help of a good pair of pliers, I fashioned a hook at each end.

Start adding the home made springs one by one. in the end i needed two complete stets of drain unblock er.

This works a treat even if I say so myself.

Work on the LD wheels

This is what they looked like when I started the restoration. Rusty and nasty green/blue.

Sand blast and one coat of acid etch paint. Two coats of primer. Four coats of Beige and four coats of lacquer.

The best part fitting the whitewall tyres. mmmm.

The finished item look great (well I think so) ready to fit to the Lambretta LD.

The front Hub was not so nice. the bearings were shot. Even had several ball bearings missing...
Remove the cir clip push each bearing out clean out old solidfied grease.tap in bearing replace cir clip. Turn over hub place the spacer in the center. tap in the bearing re fit new grease nipple and fill cavity with grease.

Lambretta LD Torsion bar fitting.

First job is to gather up all the bits needed for the torsion bar fitting.

Fit washer, circlip and rubber dust boot.

Press in the Bush with a standard vice.

Now the tricky bit, fitting to the frame and engine lugs. tension needs to be applied until to align the two holes and the second bush can be pushed through from the other side.

A well designed and cut piece of 3 x 4 and a few steel wedges and its as easy as 1,2,3.

Fit grease nipples and anti vibration washers and two circlips and the torsion bar is fitted. Job done.

Now Fit mudguard and the rear wheel can go on.

O, and the front wheel
